PROBATION PERIOD: The post holder will be required to complete a 6 month probation period

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Pastoral Support Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the well-being, behaviour, and attendance of students with a specific year group. The role requires a dedicated individual who can effectively manage administrative procedures and provide essential pastoral support to students and their families.

PASTORAL SUPPORT

  • Administer and maintain detention lists, ensuring that students are held accountable for their behaviour. Chase up on detentions to ensure compliance with disciplinary measures.
  • Implement and oversee a rewards system to encourage positive behaviour within the year group, fostering a culture of excellence and responsibility.
  • Organise and manage the administrative aspects of parent-teacher evenings, aiming to maximise attendance and facilitate meaningful interactions between parents, teachers and students.

ATTENDANCE

  • Take responsibility for implementing administrative procedures that promote high attendance rates within the year group. This includes making first-day calls to parents/guardians, sending warning letters and taking other reasonable steps to support a culture of punctuality and regular attendance in the school.
  • Regularly review attendance registers to identify instances of truancy or irregular attendance. Take appropriate actions to address and rectify attendance issues, liaising with relevant stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to identify students who may require additional support to improve their attendance and engagement in school.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to behaviour, attendance and pastoral support activities.
  • Provide guidance and support to students facing personal challenges that may affect their behaviour or attendance.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents and staff to create a supportive and inclusive school environment.
  • Collaborate with the year leadership team to develop and implement strategies for improving year group performance in behaviour and attendance.
  • Attend relevant training sessions and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in pastoral care and student support.
  • Take all reasonable steps to support the Head of Year within their responsibility for the year groups pastoral care.

  • Supporting Laureate Academy’s commitment to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare.
  • Complying with policies and procedures relating to health and safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection.
  • Contributing to the overall ethos and aims of the school.
  • Participating in training, other learning activities, and performance development as required.
  • Attending and participating in meetings as required.
  • Accepting reasonable flexibility in working arrangements and duties.
