This is a superb and exciting opportunity for an experienced, dedicated individual to join our team providing excellent leadership and drive to enhance the learning of our pupils and help support the Academy in its drive for excellence.

Purpose of the role

To lead, support, hold accountable and develop all areas of Social Sciences to ensure high standards of teaching and learning and support the well-being of staff and pupils. To take all reasonable measures to ensure that outstanding outcomes are achieved in all areas.

Objectives

  • To take a lead role in the maintenance of a transformational school community by raising standards in Social Science to ensure that we are the school others want to come and learn from.
  • To support the development of a knowledge-led disciplinary curriculum.
  • To ensure the curriculum is ‘future-proof’ and remain abreast of the significant changes to the GCSE and A-Level Examinations and aligning Social Science at The Grange with these new curriculum requirements.
  • To grow your department as required, recruiting, inducting and developing your team to ensure consistently high standards of teaching.
  • To model what it takes to be an outstanding teacher and subject leader and thus act as an example to all middle leaders.
  • To put in place the systems and structures at a department level that ensure every teacher develops as an expert practitioner.
  • Monitoring and accountability for the progress and attainment of pupils in Social Science.
  • To work with our Professional Induction Tutor to help induct and mentor NQTs, Teach Firsts, Future SCITT etc into the department.
  • Deliver high quality training on teaching and learning to other staff, focusing on your areas of particular expertise.
  • To act as a coach or mentor for other teachers as required.
  • Modelling for all staff exemplary practice in terms of establishing a culture of high expectations within your department.
  • To implement and follow all academy policies to ensure 100% consistency.
  • To deliver consistently excellent sequences of lessons to pupils to enable them to develop a deep understanding of the subject.
  • To constantly reflect on your practice and commit to the multiple layers of training and development available at The Grange.
  • To make a valued contribution to the school’s pastoral and enrichment programmes; including trips and school visits.
  • To hold, as an effective Form Tutor, responsibility for and a ‘single-view’ of each pupil in the tutor group and strive to become a true mentor to every pupil.
